voiceover messenger

Am I out of line to suggesting that businesses should hire someone to record their company voice mail messages?

I’m not making a pitch for the work here, but I honestly believe such work should be given to a professional.

Many people can be affected by voices in ways they don't realize and others can be so sensitive, to how different voices sound, which can make communications very poor.

Even the one-man band will hire someone to design his business card and logo, yet companies don’t realise that, for very little, they can create an image and sound as good as they look.

Apart from the prolific use of mobile phones within companies, the average phone tree in any company has many branches, so it can take a while to get to the right department - which heralds the first sign of toe-tapping!

If I am not calling to make a regular appointment, but calling with an important message I wish to pass on - but don't know who my best contact might be - that takes me to the second level of frustration.

But there is more! The thing that takes me almost to the pit of depression has to be the voice of the person directing my call! This is often loud, sounding bored and so condescending you feel you are being ticked off by your granny.

Personal experience shows most jobs to record voice mail are from referrals simply because a company realised that a competitor or a colleague suddenly seemed to be more successful.

In today’s busy world, communications is everything and should not be left to button pushers.
